The 2026 CSCH annual meeting will be held June 1 – June 3, (Monday – Wednesday) 2026, St John’s College at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg.
CSCH’s meeting will take place in collaboration with the Canadian Theological Society (CTS), the Canadian Society for the Study of Religion (CSSR), and the Canadian-American Theological Association (CATA). The CSCH invites proposals for individual papers and panel submissions from scholars working on the history of Christianity in Canada, as well as the history of Christianity in other parts of the world. The theme of this year’s Theological and Religious Studies forum at St. John’s is “Common Place, Contested Spaces: Religion and Theology in Canada and Beyond.” We welcome submissions that explore this overarching theme as it relates to the history of Canadian churches and faith groups. We also welcome papers that stretch the boundaries of the field or that intersect with other disciplines.
Please submit one-page proposals and a one-page CV to the program chair by e-mail:

Proposals are due by Monday, 9 February 2026.
The Canadian Society of Church History (CSCH) is dedicated to promoting and encouraging research in the history of Christianity, particularly the history of Christianity in Canada. Since its founding in 1960, the Society’s annual meetings have provided a forum for historians of Christianity to present and discuss their research in a welcoming and supportive environment. The meeting is enriched by the participation of scholars at all career stages. Thus, the Society encourages junior scholars (including graduate students), mid-career scholars, and senior scholars to present papers. The best graduate essay is eligible for the John Webster Grant–John S. Moir Graduate Essay Prize.
Please note that presenters are required to be members of the Society. Membership information can be found on our membership page.
Graduate students who present papers may be eligible for funding from the CSCH. If you are a graduate student, please self-identify in your submission your registration status (full- time or part-time). Further documentation may be requested to verify eligibility.
In partnership with the CTS, CSSR, and CATA and the generous support of St. John’s College, CSCH is organizing our 2026 annual conference independently of the Federation of the Social Sciences and Humanities in light of the cancellation of Congress 2026. As such, Congress-funded subsidies from previous years will not be available to CSCH members. Conference registration will operate independently from Congress, with registration information to be made available early in 2026.
